Switching
Moving from Wati to MajlisDesk.
Wati runs on Meta’s WhatsApp Business API. MajlisDesk connects the number to the WhatsApp Business app instead, by QR code. So the move has one real step on Meta’s side, and one rule that matters more than any other: export from Wati before you cancel.
What comes with you
- Your number, once it is off the API.
- Your contacts, from Wati’s CSV export, imported on Pro.
- Every chat on the phone from the day you connect, and the history the WhatsApp Business app holds.
What stays behind
- Conversation history kept in Wati. Meta keeps API messages for at most 30 days and documents no way to move them into the app. Export it from Wati and keep the files as your record: MajlisDesk does not import them.
- Approved message templates and chatbot flows. MajlisDesk does not send template broadcasts.
The steps
Your number is registered on the WhatsApp API through Wati
Use this if your team cannot use the number in the WhatsApp Business app today.
- Export your chats from Wati: Settings, Import/Export Chats, Start Export. You get a zip file with one text file per contact. Wati offers this on its Growth, Pro and Business plans.
- Export your contacts from Wati as a CSV (Export to CSV), and save any templates or chatbot settings you want to keep.
- Cancel your Wati subscription through Wati’s billing or support team, and ask them to disconnect the number from the WhatsApp Business API. Wati says the account becomes inaccessible immediately when you cancel, which is why the exports come first.
- If the number still shows in your WhatsApp Manager after that, delete it there (Account tools, Phone numbers). Meta allows this only for a business portfolio admin, not within 30 days of the number sending a paid message, and with the two-step verification PIN if the number shows as Connected.
- Register the number in the WhatsApp Business app on your phone, with the usual SMS or voice code.
Your number uses WhatsApp coexistence with Wati
Use this if you still use the WhatsApp Business app on the same number while Wati is connected.
- Export your chats and contacts from Wati as above, before you disconnect.
- In the WhatsApp Business app, open Settings, Account, Business Platform and disconnect Wati. Disconnecting removes linked devices, so do this before connecting MajlisDesk.
- Cancel the Wati subscription through Wati’s billing or support team.
Then, in MajlisDesk
- Sign up and start the 14-day trial.
- Settings, WhatsApp numbers, Add number: scan the QR code with the WhatsApp Business app on your phone (Settings, Linked devices, Link a device). Your chats sync in from the phone.
- Invite your team. Every plan has unlimited members.
- Optional, on Pro: import the contacts CSV you exported. It matches people by phone number and fills in name, email, company and owner; tick the box if you also want contacts created for people who have not written yet.
Questions
Will I lose my WhatsApp number?
No. The number stays yours. It has to be taken off the WhatsApp API before the WhatsApp Business app can use it again, which is the step above.
Can I import my Wati chat history?
Not into MajlisDesk. Keep Wati’s export as your record. What MajlisDesk syncs is what the WhatsApp Business app on your phone holds, from the day you connect.
How long does the move take?
The MajlisDesk part takes minutes. The Meta part depends on the number: if it sent paid messages in the last 30 days, Meta will not let it be deleted until 30 days after the last one.
Will my broadcasts keep working?
No. Template broadcasts need the WhatsApp API. If they are central to your business, an API platform is the better fit; the alternatives page says which.
